Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Attack Errors Prove Costly in Friday Night Loss at Monmouth

The Forester women's volleyball team split the first two sets before dropping the last two Friday night at Monmouth College.

Lake Forest's 57 kills on the night were 20 more than the Fighting Scots' total but were offset by a season-high 38 attack errors.

Forester Alivia Barker matched her career high and easily led all players in the match with 18 kills while teammates Rio Dirksen and L'Rae White added 11 apiece.

Setter Lilly Robinson finished with 48 assists, the program's highest total in more than eight years, and added a season-high 17 digs. Meanwhile Alisa Kevric recorded a match-high 21 digs and served up the visitors' only ace of the night and Dirksen led the squad with four blocks.

A 14-10 Monmouth lead was the largest for either team in the opening set. The Foresters battled back and were ahead 23-22 before three straight points from the Fighting Scots gave them the set.

Lake Forest won five of the first seven points and never trailed in set two. Back-to-back kills by Barker later on made the score 23-17 and her sixth of the set and 12th of the evening gave the Foresters a 25-20 set win.

The home team was ahead by as many as eight points at 18-10 in set three. That lead was soon cut in half but Lake Forest got no closer and fell 25-19.

The fourth and final set began with the visitors taking 10 of the first 14 points. Monmouth erased the deficit with a 5-0 run and never trailed again. The margin grew to five multiple times and ended there at 25-20.

The loss dropped the Foresters' overall record this season to 11-12 and evened their Midwest Conference mark to 4-4. Monmouth improved to 8-15 overall and 5-33 in the league.

Lake Forest will play its regular season finale at Grinnell College Saturday afternoon at 1:00. The result will help determine where the Foresters will play in the quarterfinals of the MWC Tournament on Tuesday, November 10.
