Box Score The Forester men's soccer team needed a pair of overtime periods at Concordia University Chicago on Thursday, but still came away with its second straight 2-1 victory and third win of the season by that score. It was also the second two-goal game of the year for sophomore Mahir Mameledzija.
Mameledzija started the scoring in the 25th minute, taking a pass from fellow sophomore Alexi Spiratos and sending it past the Cougar goalie. It was Spiratos' team-high-tying fourth assist of the year. The Foresters had a 10-2 advantage in shots in the first half but still led just 1-0 at the end of the period.
Concordia Chicago out-shot the visitors 8-6 in the second half and tied the score in the 77th minute to force overtime.
Mameledzija finally struck again with 2:25 to play in the second overtime, giving him a team-high six goals and 13 points this season. It was his seventh career game-winning goal in just 23 contests.
Lake Forest freshman goalkeeper Ian Taylor made four saves to earn the victory in his first career start.
The Foresters remain undefeated with five one-goal victories in six games this season. Concordia Chicago fell to 1-5-0.
The next game on the Lake Forest schedule is a non-conference contest at Eureka College Saturday afternoon at 3:30.
