Box Score The Lake Forest College men's soccer team was defeated 1-0 by host Carroll University on Friday in the semifinals of the Midwest Conference Tournament. The Foresters created eight corner kick opportunities in the game but were unable to score.
The only goal of the contest was scored six-and-a-half minutes into the second half.
Both teams had a dozen shots in the game with Lake Forest holding a 7-5 advantage in the first half and Carroll the same edge in the second. The Foresters had six corner kicks and the Pioneers none in the opening period. Carroll had six such opportunities and Lake Forest two in the second.
Forester freshman goalkeeper Ian Taylor made four saves in the game, as did Carroll's goalie. Taylor finished the season with a 0.57 goals against average.
Carroll raised its record on the year to 10-7-2 and advances to tomorrow's final at noon against either Lawrence University or Beloit College.
Lake Forest finished the season with a 13-3-3 overall record and outscored its opponents 45-14. Sophomore Mahir Mameledzija led the squad with 13 goals and 31 points and he already ranks tied-for-10th in team history with 63 points after just two seasons. Senior Chris Haught-Thompson and sophomore Alexi Spiratos tied for the team lead with six assists apiece.
In addition to Haught-Thompson, the Forester will lose fellow seniors Jerrold Rosema, Stephen Egan, Nelson Dorvlo, and Anthony Valsamis to graduation in May.
