The Golden Gusties took an early lead and never looked back as Lake Forest men's soccer fell to Gustavus Adolphus 6-1.
Three minutes into the game, the visitors had their first of the night, sending a long through ball that beat the Forester defense. Gustavus Adolphus kept up the pressure, scoring again on a rebound after a save by
Marceli Okonski.
Lake Forest's lone shot on target in the first half came on a
Gustavo Machado free kick that he directed to the visiting goalkeeper's left. Gustavus added a third goal on a free kick in the 33rd minute.
Okonski made a save late in the first half, adjusting to a deflected shot with a reaction save in the lower right corner. At the end of the first 45 minutes, the visitors led 3-0.
The second half saw more control for the visitors, as a 58th-minute run down the right wing led to a cross that the Foresters deflected into their own net. Nine minutes later, Gustavus made it 5-0 with a finish on a rebounded shot.
In the 77th minute, Lake Forest earned a free kick from 28 yards out.
Conor Leuschke, who was on the field as a striker for the Foresters, stepped up and slotted the ball in the bottom left corner. Leuschke has appeared as a field player twice before this season and scored nine goals as a senior at Nottingham High School in Syracuse, New York.
The Golden Gusties added one more goal in the 85th minute with a finish from outside of the box as the game ended 6-1 to the visitors.
The Foresters hit the road for the final time this regular season on Saturday with a trip to Ripon College. Lake Forest returns home to face Knox on Oct. 31.
