Foresters' Season-Opening Unbeaten Streak Ends at 11 Games

Box Score

The Lake Forest College men's soccer team was defeated 1-0 at Beloit College on Wednesday. The Foresters are now 9-1-2 overall and 1-1-1 in Midwest Conference play.

Dating back to last season, Lake Forest had gone 13 consecutive contests without suffering a loss for the fourth-longest unbeaten streak in program history. The 1974 Foresters finished the season with five straight victories and the team began 1975 with 11 wins in a row for a program record 16-game unbeaten streak. The team has also had 15-game streaks in 1979-80 and 1995-96. Beloit also ended Lake Forest's streak in 1996.

The longest unbeaten streak to start a season is now shared by the 1975 and 2011 teams.

Lake Forest and Beloit played a scoreless opening period on Wednesday. The Buccaneers had a slight 10-9 advantage on shots but needed four saves to the Foresters' three to keep each other off the scoreboard.

Beloit scored the only goal of the contest 90 seconds into the second half. The Bucs out-shot Lake Forest 8-6 and each team put two shots on goal in the final 45 minutes.

Forester junior goalkeeper Giancarlo Colasanti made five saves in the contest.

Lake Forest will continue league play Saturday afternoon at Grinnell College. The game will begin at 1:30 p.m.
