Box Score The Lake Forest College men's soccer team prevailed 5-1 at Knox College on Saturday. The Foresters are now 12-2-3 overall and 4-2-2 in Midwest Conference play this year. Senior Stephen Egan scored two of the team's goals on Saturday.
Forester sophomore Mahir Mameledzija started the scoring just 71 seconds into the contest. Sophomore Jordan Hartman assisted on Mameledzija's team-high 13th goal of the year. It was also the seventh time this season that Mameledzija scored the first goal of a contest.
Egan netted his first score of the day at 21:20 with Mameledzija and senior Chris Haught-Thompson each picking up an assist.
Lake Forest out-shot Knox 7-4 during the opening period and led 2-0 at halftime.
Haught-Thompson recorded his second assist of the game when his corner kick was sent past the Prairie Fire goalkeeper by sophomore Alexi Spiratos seven minutes and 15 seconds into the second half. It was Spiratos' fourth goal of the season.
Egan's second score of the day and fifth this year was scored at 57:47. Freshman Kyle Kraus assisted on the goal.
The Foresters' final tally was turned in by Hartman at 68:35. Sophomore Charlie Brey asssited on Hartman's third goal of the season.
The only goal surrendered by Lake Forest freshman goalkeeper Ian Taylor came with exactly 19 minutes left on the clock. Taylor made four saves in the contest and raised his record on the year to 4-0-1.
Lake Forest had a 16-5 edge in shots during the second half.
Knox fell to 1-15-0 overall and 0-8-0 in league play.
The Foresters need a victory over visiting Carroll University tomorrow afternoon (2:30) to clinch a spot in next weekend's four-team MWC Tournament. Carroll is this year's conference champion with a perfect 8-0-0 league record.
