The Lake Forest College volleyball team hosted and defeated Marian University in three sets (25-14, 25-15, 25-21) Wednesday night. Forester sophomore Megan Trubich set a career-high with eight aces and the home team outscored the visitors 22-6 when she served.

Trubich also had seven kills, 11 digs, and a block in the match. Sophomore Cori Cooper led all players in the match with 11 kills and she was part of a pair of blocks. Sophomore Molly McCloskey finished with eight kills and 11 digs. Sophomore Tia Rupnik recorded a match-high 20 digs and senior Mandi Mulliner had five blocks.

Lake Forest senior Deena Blanchard tallied 36 assists on the night and now ranks fifth in program history with 1,708 in her career.

The Foresters led set one 14-11 before one of Mulliner's five kills in the set gave Trubich the serve and the home team outscored Marian 11-4 the rest of the way. Blanchard recorded 15 assists and Trubich had four aces in the set.

The Sabre's only lead of the night was 1-0 in the second set, which was close until a 9-0 run by the Foresters with Trubich serving gave the home team a 23-13 advantage. Mulliner had four blocks, Rupnik had seven digs, and Cooper led the team with three kills in the set.

The score in set three was 4-4 when Trubich delivered one of her four kills in the set and then served up two aces and three more Forester points to give the team a 10-4 advantage. Marian pulled to within three points a few times, the last at 24-21, before a service error closed out the match. Cooper recorded five kills, Blanchard 14 assists, and Rupnik nine digs in the set.

Lake Forest will put its 1-1 Midwest Conference record on the line this weekend when the team hosts Illinois College Friday night at 7:00 and Monmouth College Saturday at 11:00 a.m. The Foresters will also host Kalamazoo College Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
