The Lake Forest College volleyball team hosted and defeated
Marian University in three sets (25-14, 25-15, 25-21) Wednesday
night. Forester sophomore Megan Trubich set a career-high with
eight aces and the home team outscored the visitors 22-6 when she
served.
Trubich also had seven kills, 11 digs, and a block in the
match. Sophomore Cori Cooper led all players in the match with 11
kills and she was part of a pair of blocks. Sophomore Molly McCloskey finished with eight kills and 11 digs. Sophomore Tia Rupnik recorded a match-high 20 digs and senior Mandi Mulliner had
five blocks.
Lake Forest senior Deena Blanchard tallied 36 assists on the
night and now ranks fifth in program history with 1,708 in her
career.
The Foresters led set one 14-11 before one of Mulliner's
five kills in the set gave Trubich the serve and the home team
outscored Marian 11-4 the rest of the way. Blanchard recorded 15
assists and Trubich had four aces in the set.
The Sabre's only lead of the night was 1-0 in the second set,
which was close until a 9-0 run by the Foresters with Trubich
serving gave the home team a 23-13 advantage. Mulliner had four
blocks, Rupnik had seven digs, and Cooper led the team with
three kills in the set.
The score in set three was 4-4 when Trubich delivered one of her
four kills in the set and then served up two aces and three more
Forester points to give the team a 10-4 advantage. Marian pulled to
within three points a few times, the last at 24-21, before a
service error closed out the match. Cooper recorded five kills,
Blanchard 14 assists, and Rupnik nine digs in the set.
Lake Forest will put its 1-1 Midwest Conference record on the
line this weekend when the team hosts Illinois College Friday night
at 7:00 and Monmouth College Saturday at 11:00 a.m. The Foresters
will also host Kalamazoo College Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
