The Lake Forest College volleyball team was defeated 21-25,
25-22, 23-25, 25-18, 16-14 at Grinnell College on Saturday.
Forester sophomore Cori Cooper finished the match with 13 kills, 27
digs, three aces, and two blocks.
Cooper was just one of four Lake Forest players to reach double
figures in kills, led by sophomore Molly McCloskey with a
career-high 19. Senior Mandi Mulliner and sophomore Megan Trubich
added a dozen kills apiece.
Four Foresters also recorded at least 10 digs. Cooper's 27 led
the squad and was followed closely by sophomore Tia Rupnik's 25.
McCloskey finished with 17 and Trubich 12.
Senior Deena Blanchard led the visitors with 38 assists and
Mulliner recorded a team-high three blocks.
Lake Forest led 5-1 early in the fifth set and later had a 12-10
advantage. Grinnell, however, scored the next three points. The
Foresters tied the score at 13 and then again at 14 before
back-to-back points by the home team closed things out.
The Foresters fell to 7-9 overall and 1-1 in Midwest Conference
play this season. The Pioneers were playing their league match of
the year and are now 7-5 overall.
Lake Forest will host Marian University in a non-conference
match Wednesday night at 7:00.
