The Lake Forest College volleyball team defeated Beloit College
25-21, 25-17, 25-22 Friday night in the Midwest Conference opener
for both teams. Forester sophomore Tia Rupnik recorded a match-high
28 digs and received 18 serves without an error.
Fifteen of Rupnik's digs came during the first set. She also
served during a 6-0 Forester run that gave the home team a 17-12
lead. Lake Forest sophomore Megan Trubich also got off to a good
start with four kills in just nine attempts in the set. Senior
Deena Blanchard had seven assists and was serving when the
Foresters closed it out.
The Foresters never trailed in the second set. Sophomores Molly McCloskey, Kristen Braun, and Cori Cooper shared team-high honors
with four kills apiece.
McCloskey added five kills in the third set, including match
point. Blanchard and freshman Tori Drasler each tallied seven
assists and Cooper recorded 10 digs.
McCloskey and Cooper reached double figures in kills with 12 and
10, respectively. Blanchard finished with 19 assists and Drasler
with 17. In addition to Rupnik's 28 digs, Cooper had 16 and Trubich
a dozen. Trubich and senior Mandi Mulliner were each part of two
blocks and Blanchard, McCloskey, and Rupnik each registered a pair
of aces.
The Foresters, who are now 7-8 overall, will continue
league play at Grinnell College tomorrow at noon.
