The Lake Forest College men's soccer team evened its record on
the season at 3-3-0 by shutting out visiting Benedictine University
4-0 on Wednesday. Freshman Steven
Johnson scored his first career goal just over five minutes
into the contest.
Johnson's goal was assisted by classmate Mahir Mameledzija, who also scored the team's third
goal and assisted on the fourth. He leads the squad with three
goals, four assists, and 10 points this season.
The Foresters' second goal came on a penalty kick by junior Chris
Haught-Thompson at 20:14. It was his first goal of the
year.
Mameledzija added to the home team's lead just three minutes and
16 seconds into the second half. He then set up junior Nelson
Dorvlo's second goal of the season just 66 seconds later.
Senior goalkeeper Tom Biesiada
needed just one save to blank the Eagles for the game's first 45
minutes and freshman Melvin
Flores recorded three saves while holding the
visitors' scoreless in the second half.
Lake Forest will resume Midwest Conference play at St. Norbert
College on Saturday. The game is scheduled to begin at 3:30
p.m.
