Foresters Defeat Benedictine 4-0

The Lake Forest College men's soccer team evened its record on the season at 3-3-0 by shutting out visiting Benedictine University 4-0 on Wednesday. Freshman Steven Johnson scored his first career goal just over five minutes into the contest.

Johnson's goal was assisted by classmate Mahir Mameledzija, who also scored the team's third goal and assisted on the fourth. He leads the squad with three goals, four assists, and 10 points this season.

The Foresters' second goal came on a penalty kick by junior Chris Haught-Thompson at 20:14. It was his first goal of the year.

Mameledzija added to the home team's lead just three minutes and 16 seconds into the second half. He then set up junior Nelson Dorvlo's second goal of the season just 66 seconds later.

Senior goalkeeper Tom Biesiada needed just one save to blank the Eagles for the game's first 45 minutes and freshman Melvin Flores recorded three saves while holding the visitors' scoreless in the second half.

Lake Forest will resume Midwest Conference play at St. Norbert College on Saturday. The game is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m.
