The Lake Forest College volleyball team was defeated in five sets (25-23, 12-25, 25-17, 19-25, 15-8) at Lawrence University on Saturday. The Foresters also dropped a non-conference match 25-14, 25-20, 25-17 to UW-Stevens Point. Senior setter Deena Blanchard had 70 assists and six aces in the two matches combined.
Blanchard matched her season-high with 45 assists, added seven kills and seven digs, and matched a career-high with five aces against Lawrence. She recorded a .375 hitting percentage in the contest.
Lake Forest sophomores Molly McCloskey (14 kills, 11 digs), Cori Cooper (13, 11), and Megan Trubich (11, 13) each recorded a double-double on the day. Classmate Tia Rupnik tallied a match-high 25 digs.
Set one was close throughout and tied 10 times before Lawrence pulled away at the end.
The Foresters scored the first six points of the second set and later rattled off seven points in a row.
Lawrence broke a 10-10 with three points in a row and never led by fewer than two the rest of the set.
Lake Forest jumped out a to an 11-3 lead and later led 19-8 in the fourth set.
After falling behind 2-1 in the fifth set, the Vikings outscored their guests 14-6 the rest of the way.
McCloskey was the only Forester in double figure in kills against Stevens Point with 12. Likewise, Cooper was the lone Lake Forest player with 10 or more digs. She finished the match with 13. Blanchard had 25 assists in the contest.
Stevens Point scored the first six points of the match and later used an 8-1 run to put the first set out of reach for the Foresters.
The Pointers never trailed in set two either, but the Foresters kept the score close.
Stevens Point pulled away gradually in the final set before claiming the victory.
Lake Forest fell to 14-16 overall and finished the regular season with a Midwest Conference mark of 6-3. The Foresters will be the #3 seed in next weekend's MWC Tournament at league champion Monmouth College.
