The Lake Forest College volleyball team defeated host St. Norbert College 25-12, 25-16, 23-25, 25-23 Friday night to even its overall record on the year at 14-14 and raise its Midwest Conference mark to 6-2. Senior Mandi Mulliner had 10 kills and a match-high five blocks, including three solos, in the contest.
Forester sophomore Cori Cooper led all players in the match with 13 kills and three aces and, with 11 digs, recorded her 11th double-double of the season and ninth in the last 14 contests. Classmate Molly McCloskey also registered a double-double with 11 kills and 10 digs and fellow sophomore Megan Trubich chipped in with 10 kills and a pair of aces.
Senior setter Deena Blanchard tallied a season-high 45 assists and added 14 digs. Sophomore Tia Rupnik led the visitors with 16 digs.
The Green Knights fell to 21-8 overall this season but are still tied with the Foresters and Beloit College for second place in the league standings with a mark of 6-2. Lake Forest will finish its conference schedule at Lawrence University tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. and will then take on UW-Stevens Point in a non-conference match at 1:00 in the afternoon. St. Norbert will host Beloit at 1:00.
Monmouth College currently sits atop the MWC with a final league record of 7-2 and would claim the league title and, therefore, the right to host next weekend's conference tournament if Beloit wins at St. Norbert. Lake Forest would capture the championship with a win and a St. Norbert victory, as long as the Green Knights do not need fewer sets to prevail. The Green Knights would earn their third consecutive title by defeating Beloit and having the Foresters lose or need more sets to win.
Lake Forest, Monmouth, St. Norbert, and Beloit have already clinched the four spots in the conference tourney.
