The Forester men's soccer team was defeated 3-2 by visiting
Beloit College on Sunday and fell to 10-6-0 overall this season.
The team is also 3-4 in Midwest Conference play and no longer in
contention for a spot in the four-team MWC Tournament. Freshman
Alexi Spiratos netted his first career goal and became the 19th
different Forester to score this season.
Spiratos' goal came in the 38th minute. It was set up by
classmate Nicholas Kliminski, whose shot was saved by the Beloit
goalie but rebounded in by Spiratos, giving the home team a 1-0
lead.
The Buccaneers tied the score on a penalty kick goal with 2:40
to play in the opening period, which ended with the teams tied
1-1.
The Foresters regained the lead on freshman Mahir Mameledzija's
team-high 12th goal of the season at the 53:24 mark. Junior Anthony
Valsamis sent the ball forward to classmate Stephen Egan, who
crossed it to Mameledzija for the score.
Beloit pulled even again at 68:25 and then took the lead with
15:26 remaining on the clock.
Lake Forest will close out the season with a pair of home games
next weekend. The Foresters will host Illinois College for Parents
Day on Saturday and Monmouth College the following afternoon for
Senior Day. Both games will begin at 2:30 p.m.
