The Lake Forest College volleyball team was edged out in five
long sets (25-22, 24-26, 26-28, 26-24, 16-14) by Wheaton College in
the Foresters' first home match of the season. It was Lake Forest's
sixth loss in as many matches and the Thunder raised their record
to 3-2.
Junior Mandi Mulliner (Elmhurst, Ill./York) led the Foresters with
a career-high 19 kills and committed only one error in 31 attempts
for a .581 hitting percentage. She also had a pair of aces in the
match. Freshmen Cori Cooper (Crystal Lake, Ill./Crystal Lake
Central) and Megan Trubich (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield Central)
also reached double figures in kills with 15 and 13, respectively,
and Trubich added three blocks. Junior Deena Blanchard (Sparta,
Mich./Sparta) had a season-high 45 assists. Freshman Molly McCloskey (Riverside, Ill./Riverside-Brookfield) tallied 20 digs in
the contest, Trubich and sophomore Theresa Converse (Warrentown,
Va./Notre Dame Academy) had 15 each, and Cooper finished with
13.
Lake Forest will travel to UW-Oshkosh for the Pizza Hut Classic
this weekend (September 11-12). The Foresters will take on St.
Norbert College at 3:30 p.m. on Friday and Millikin University at
7:30. They will also play two matches on Saturday at times and
against opponents to be determined.
