The Forester volleyball team dropped all four of its match at
the Elmhurst College Invitational over the weekend (September 4-5).
Lake Forest was defeated 25-11, 25-19, 25-14 by Nebraska Wesleyan
University and 25-15, 23-25, 25-19, 25-21 to John Carroll
University on Friday before dropping four-set decisions to Trine
University (12-25, 25-17, 25-13, 25-19) and Illinois Wesleyan
University (25-17, 25-20, 30-32, 25-16) on Saturday. The team is
now 0-5 on the season.
Three Foresters shared the team lead with six kills against
Nebraska Wesleyan. Junior Deena
Blanchard (Sparta, Mich./Sparta) finished with 15 assists,
freshman Cori Cooper
(Crystal Lake, Ill./Crystal Lake Central) recorded a pair of aces,
and freshman Molly
McCloskey (Riverside, Ill./Riverside-Brookfield) reached double
figures with 13 digs.
Cooper led the team with 14 kills against John Carroll while
freshman Megan
Trubich (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield Central) and McCloskey
added 11 and 10, respectively. Blanchard tallied 32 assists and
McCloskey and sophomore Theresa
Converse (Warrentown, Va./Notre Dame Academy) finished with a
team-high 11 digs apiece.
Cooper pounded out a season-high 15 kills and a .364 hitting
percentage against Trine. She also added four aces and 14 digs.
Also leading the team were Blanchard with 29 assists and Trubich
with five aces and 23 digs.
Trubich and Cooper each finished the contest against Illinois
Wesleyan with nine kills. Converse led the team with four aces and
20 digs. Cooper had 17 digs and McCloskey 14. Blanchard recorded 24
assists.
Tema leaders for the weekend were Cooper with 44 kills,
Blanchard with 100 assists, Trubich with eight aces and 44 digs,
and junior Mandi
Mulliner (Elmhurst, Ill./York) with eight blocks (two in each
match).
The Foresters will play their 2009 home opener Tuesday night
(September 8) against Wheaton College. The match will begin at 7:00
p.m.
