The Lake Forest College men's soccer team completed its 2009
season with a 1-0 triumph at Monmouth College on Sunday (November
1). The Foresters finished the year with an overall record of
6-11-1 and a Midwest Conference mark of 3-5-1. The Fighting Scots
were 2-13-1 on the season overall and 1-7-1 in the league.
Lake Forest out-shot the home team 7-5 in the opening period but
each goalkeeper turned away the only shot on goal he faced.
Forester junior goalie Tom Biesiada
(Grayslake, Ill./Grayslake Central) then completed the shutout with
three saves in the second half. The visitors out-shot Monmouth
again 9-6 and scored the game's only goal on a penalty kick by
sophomore Chris
Haught-Thompson (Westchester, Ohio/Lakota East) at 75:30.
It was Haught-Thompson's third goal of the season and he led the
squad with three assists and nine points. Fellow sophomore Nelson
Dorvlo (St. Louis, Mo./University City) scored a team-high four
goals and Biesiada finished the year with five shutouts and a goals
against average of 1.42.
The only player on the team that will be lost to graduation in May
is four-year starter and senior captain Ben Cady (White
Bear Lake, Minn./White Bear).
