The Forester men's soccer team was defeated 3-1 by visiting
Grinnell College Saturday morning (October 24). Lake Forest fell to
5-9-1 overall and 2-3-1 in Midwest Conference play. The Pioneers
are now 8-6-2 overall and 5-1-2 in the league.
Playing on a muddy rain-soaked field, the Foresters out-shot their
guests 9-4 in the first half but surrendered the period's only goal
with 4:15 left on the clock.
Grinnell doubled its lead at the 64:05 mark but Lake Forest pulled
back to within a goal at 67:19 when freshman Jacob Heaps
(St. Paul, Minn./De La Salle), from the right side of the field,
kicked the ball past the goalie's outstretched arms into the left
side of the net. The ball had been on the left side before passes
from freshman Jon Frisby (Rancho Cucamoanga, Calif./Webb) and
sophomore Raul
Ardelean (Arad, Romania/Col. Nat. "Moise Nicoara") set up Heaps
for the score. Unfortunately for the Foresters, the comback attempt
was thwarted when Grinnell tacked on an insurance goal in the 81st
minute.
Both teams attempted just three shots in the second half as the
sloppy field significantly hampered the offensive attack of both
teams.
The Foresters will look to even their league record tomorrow
afternoon at Beloit College. The game will begin at 3:30 p.m
