The Forester volleyball team was defeated 25-16, 25-19, 25-12 at
Ripon College Tuesday night (October 20). Lake Forest fell to 5-16
overall and 2-3 in Midwest Conference play while the Red Hawks
raised their overall record to 11-14 and league mark to 5-2.
Lake Forest was led by freshman Cori Cooper's (Crystal Lake,
Ill./Crystal Lake Central) seven kills, junior Deena Blanchard's
(Sparta, Mich./Sparta) 17 assists, and freshman Megan Trubich's
(Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield Central) 11 digs.
A 9-0 Ripon run in the first set turned a 10-7 Lake Forest
advantage into a 16-10 deficit from which the visitors never
recovered.
With a 16-11 lead in the second set, the Foresters appeared poised
to tie the match at one set apiece. However, Ripon called a timeout
and then embarked on a 14-3 run to take the set.
The Red Hawks scored the first six points of the third set and
gradually pulled away to close out the match.
Lake Forest will continue league play Friday night (October 23) at
6:30 at Beloit College. The team will then host Grinnell College
Saturday morning (October 24) at 10:00 and the match be followed by
