    Men's Hockey Goaltenders Coach

Tony Martino, a coach at numerous levels since 1999, joined the Lake Forest staff prior to the 2014-15 season as an assistant coach. He works directly with the team’s goaltenders.

Martino has helped the Foresters record 121 victories over the last 11 years, including 87 in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play. The 2019-20 team qualified for the NCAA Division III Tournament for the first time since 1991 and its 18-6-3 overall record is the program's best in nearly three decades. Lake Forest's 14 conference victories in 2019-20 is the highest total in team history and the squad’s 15-game unbeaten streak in 2014-15 is also a program record.

Forester goaltenders made at least 30 saves in 14 games in 2024-25. During his time at the College two of Martino's goaltenders have been named All-NCHA and four of the top seven single season save percentages have been recorded during that span. In addition, Forester Leo Podolsky was named 2014-15 NCHA Player of the Year and First Team Division III West All-American after ranking second in the nation with a .940 save percentage.

Also a goaltenders coach with the Forester women's team for the last 10 seasons, Martino has directed players in that program to five All-NCHA selections and a pair of NCHA All-Freshman Team honors.

Martino has held several different positions in the sport of hockey and is currently an amateur scout for the NHL’s Toronto Maple Leafs and Hockey Director at the Winter Club of Lake Forest.

Martino’s head coaching experience began with three years with the New Mexico Scorpions of the CHL and a season with the Knoxville Ice Bears of the ACHL. He also directed two teams for a total of three years in Italy, where he claimed a Coppa de Presidente championship, and was the head coach and director of hockey operations of the Tulsa Oilers of the CHL.

In addition, Martino has been an assistant coach, goaltenders coach, video coach, or scout for several other organizations, including the Chicago Blackhawks. His most recent position was the goaltenders coach for the Lake Forest High School varsity team from 2010-13. He was also an assistant coach with the Chicago Express of the ECHL in 2011-12.
