Benny Watters joined the Lake Forest College Football program as the team’s “little brother” through an adoption with the Friends of Jaclyn Organization. Benny passed away in 2010 from an inoperable brain tumor (DIPG). Benny’s loving personality, contagious laugh, and kindness were infectious for the program. Benny’s passion for Lake Forest Collee and it’s players had nothing to do with on field success, but rather the fun and fellowship that he felt when carving pumpkins, playing mini-golf, or WII with his “big brothers.”
The Scout Team player of the Year awards (one for offense, one for defense) bear his name as it recognizes individuals that give of themselves for the betterment of the team without expectation for recognition. Their willingness to help their teammates improve and grow each day is evident. This award is given individually to the two individuals that not only work hard but bring joy to the efforts required for team success.
