The Forester football team began the 2026 season with the third-highest scoring game in program history on Saturday, defeating visiting Greenville University 77-14 on Farwell Field.
The home team reached the end zone on all 11 of its possessions. Tailback
Cole Sorensen started the scoring with a 13-yard run and quarterback
Ethan Springer followed with a 7-yarder. Springer also threw for four touchdowns, including a 48-yarder to
Luke Maxson in the first quarter and a 28-yarder to
Luka Nikolich and a 36-yarder to
Jack Lewis in the second. Backup quarterback
Robert Knorr closed out the first half scoring with a 7-yard run that made it a 42-0 game at the halfway mark.
The 42-point half matched the sixth-largest scoring output in school history.
Running back
Joseph Clark turned a run up the middle into a 34-yard spring to the end zone to finish off the first possession of the second half and Springer's final drive of the game ended with a 42-yard pass to tight end
James Jordan. Knorr connected with freshman tight end
Davian Laudermilk on a 6-yard touchdown pass to close out the Foresters third consecutive 21-point quarter and make the score 63-0.
Both teams had a pair of touchdowns in the final period, beginning with a long run by Greenville to get on the scoreboard. Lake Forest wide receiverÂ
Jaden Barth answered by hauling in a 32-yard pass from
Zach Wren for the first score of his career and, after a long passing score from the visitors, freshman tailback
Kaden Abrantes out-sprinted the Greenville defense 47 yards to join Laudermilk with a touchdown in his collegiate debut.
Kicker
Hudson Schambach was 11-for-11 on extra points and that single-game total is the second-highest in program history. He also moved into eighth on the career list in that category with 59 in just 11 contests.
Springer completed 20 of 26 passes on the day and tossed four touchdown passes for the second time. His 244.0 efficiency rating was the seventh-highest mark in team history and his career-high 360 passing yards matched the program's seventh-best total. He was also second on the team in rushing with 52 yards on five attempts.
Thirteen Foresters caught at least one pass in the game and wideout
Dom Esposito was the team's leading receiver with five receptions for 75 yards. Lake Forest quarterbacks and receivers accumulated 406 yards through the air for the third-highest total in school history.
Lake Forest also rushed for 233 yards 6.6 per carry. Abrantes led the way with 56 on just four attempts and Clark covered 40 yards on his three carries. The Foresters' 629 total yards on the day ranks third in team annals.
The Forester defense limited the Panthers to just 129 total yards in the first three quarters and kept them off the scoreboard until the fourth. Linebackers
Blake Ware and
Joseph Okoh shared the team lead with five tackles apiece. Okoh registered 2.5 tackles for loss and lineman
Nicholas Zook turned in the first two sacks of his career. Twenty-seven players on the team had at least one tackle in the contest.
Lake Forest will play another non-conference game at Knox College next Saturday with Kickoff scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
