While outshooting the Rams 22-6 in 90 minutes of action, Lake Forest took an early lead and capitalized on chances in a 3-0 victory over Cornell in the first Midwest Conference match of the season.
The Lake Forest offense started the game on the right foot, with captain
Ollie Francis firing twice on goal in the first five minutes of play. Although Francis could not find the net,
Nathan Kostovetsky did score in the seventh minute and the Foresters took a 1-0 lead.
Sam Satisky picked up the assist on the first score of the game, which marked the junior's first point of the season.
In the 18th minute, Kostovetsky made way for
Jonas Antolik, and the Australian forward made an immediate impact. Six minutes after entering the game, Antolik found the back of the net to make the game 2-0. As the Foresters went deeper into the bench in the first half, Lake Forest continued to press, with
Rocky Rabago taking aim at the net twice. However, the Cornell goalkeeper denied both shots, and the game went into halftime with the Foresters ahead by two.
It was more of the same in the second half—the Foresters found early looks at goal through Francis and Kostovetsky—but the goal did not come as early as it did in the first frame.
Gustavo Machado scored in the 69th minute, putting the finishing touch on a great offensive display for Lake Forest. The back line continued its great run of form with 0 shots on goal allowed. Goalkeepers
