Foresters Dominate With Goals From Distance in 5-0 Win Against Aurora

The Lake Forest women's soccer team dominated the run of play and scored multiple goals from distance to defeat Aurora 5-0.

The Foresters had the best chance of the early stages, with Maggie Balas denied at the goal line and minutes later Sophia Key forced a save out of the Aurora goalkeeper. Midway through the first half, Keighan Whitlock forced another save out of the Spartans, and on the ensuing corner kick Whitlock found the ball in front of the net and rolled home the game's opening goal.

In the 34th minute, Ella Lubarsky forced a turnover deep in the Spartan half and fired a shot from outside of the box into the top left corner. The senior's highlight-reel goal marked her first as a Forester and pushed the score to 2-0, which is how the game went into halftime. Lake Forest outshot the Spartans 11-2 in the first half.

The Foresters continued to find goals from distance in the second half. Balas launched a free kick from the sideline that went over the outstretched arms of the goalkeeper and into the net. Then, Whitlock launched a one-time shot from 20 yards out that nestled into the top corner to give Lake Forest a 4-0 lead. The Foresters added a fifth on a Veronica Presberg penalty kick, as goalkeepers Sara Swenson and Maddie Geasey combined for a fifth straight clean sheet.

Lake Forest remains on the road for a match at Carthage College on Wednesday. Kickoff against the Firebirds is at 5 p.m.
