The Lake Forest College women's lacrosse team won the battle of first place teams in the Northern Athletics Collegoate Conference on Wednesday, defeating Aurora University 11-9 on the road.
The Foresters matched the ninth-highest single-game caused turnover total in team history with 19 and senior
Claire Aimone's seven was just one shy of the program record for an individual. She also scored a goal for the first time in nearly three years and was one of seven players on the team with three ground balls.Â
Lake Forest also had a 14-9 advantage in draw controls with senior
Shannon Gibbons leading all players with eight.
Gibbons was also one of four Foresters two score twice in the game, although her goals could not have been much farther apart. She gave the visitors the early lead just 20 seconds into the first quarter and scored the final goal of the contest with just 22 seconds on the fourth quarter clock.
Lake Forest never trailed but Aurora came back to tie the score on four different occasions. The Foresters regained the lead on tallies by freshman Gracia Muñoz in the first quarter (3-2), junior
Ella Maher in the second (4-3) and freshman
Madison DeGeorge in the third (6-5) and fourth (9-8).

Audrey Kroeger finished with a goal and three assists.

Cecilia Adams, who recorded her 400th career in the team's last game, added four to that total on Wednesday, including three in the final period.
The victory was the fifth in a row for the Foresters, who are now 9-4 overall and a perfect 7-0 in NACC play this season. Aurora fell to 8-7 overall and 6-1 in the league.
Lake Forest will celebrate Senior Day, Parents Day, and Alumni Day on Saturday when the tem hosts Cornell College at 2:00 p.m.
