The Forester men's lacrosse team prevailed 12-9 at the University of Dubuque on Saturday.
Lake Forest won 20 of the game's 25 faceoffs, including 19 of 22 taken by junior
Gabe Boston. His faceoff victory total was the second-highest mark since that category was tracked in 2022 and his 11 ground balls on the day were just one shy of the program record.
The first quarter included the first of two goals on the day for Forester junior
Carson Pagel and junior defenseman
Liam Bradley scored for the third time this season. The Spartanas, however, struck four times in the period.
Five consecutive tallies in the second turned the visitors' two-goal deficit into a three-score lead. Senior
Brant Schuckman started the run, classmate
Ryan Dousevicz accounted for the next three, and sophomore
Jackson Derosia made it a 7-4 game with 6:36 on the clock. Dubuque's third man-up goal of the contest closed out the first half scoring.
The home team struck first in the third quarter to close to within one but back-to-back scores by Lake Forest senior
Brendan Herbert and Pagel's second of the game increased the margin to four going into the final period.
Dubuque scored first in the fourth but Herbert completed his hat trick just six seconds later off an assist from Boston. Schuckman answered the Spartans' next goal with his second of the afternoon and one more for Dubuque accounted for the final.
Bradley racked up six ground balls and the Foresters had a 40-23 advantage in that category as a team. Both teams committed 18 turnovers, including two caused by Lake Forest senior
Jacob Smith.
Forester senior goalkeeper
Jacob Lipson made three saves in each of the first three quarters and 10 in the contest. He has had at least as many saves as goals allowed in all but two appearances this year.
The victory raised Lake Forest's overall record to 7-5 and Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference mark to 6-2. Dubuque, meanwhile, fell to 4-9 overall and 2-6 in the league.
The Foresters will host first-place Aurora University Wednesday at 4:00 p.m.
