Lake Forest College women's lacrosse player
Emma Sharp was named Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Offensive Player of the Week on Wednesday for her school record-setting performance in Saturday's 21-6 season-opening victory over Illinois Wesleyan University.
Sharp broke her own program and league record for points in a game with 16. The senior attacker either scored or assisted on each of the Foresters' first eight tallies and had six goals and five assists by halftime. Lake Forest led 12-2 at that point and she added two goals and an assist to give her team an 18-3 lead by the end of the third quarter. Sharp, who held the previous school record and shared the previous conference mark of 14 points, broke that on an assist with 8:27 remaining and tacked on her 9th goal and 16th point of the contest with 6:47 to play.
The fifth goal of the game for Sharp was also the 100th of her career, making her the fourth Forester to reach that milestone. She also became the program's all-time leader in assists on her last of the day, which raised her career total to 119.
Sharp turned in a pair of school record nine-assist performances last year and this is her second game with exactly seven assists. She also had six in a game three times, giving her seven of the top 11 single-game assist totals in team history.
Jenna Doctor, who graduated last May, was the only Forester to score seven or more times in a game before Sharp struck nine times on Saturday.
NACC Players of the Week are selected by a committee of sports information directors within the league. Sharp also earned the award three times last season.
