Tennis player Bernardo Aguiar and lacrosse player Shannon Gibbons were named Forester Athletes of the Week on Tuesday.

Playing at #2 singles, Aguiar earned the clinching point in Lake Forest's 4-1 victory over the University of California, Santa Cruz on Sunday. After dropping the first set 7-5, the junior took the second 6-4 and was tied at three in the third. With the Foresters ahead 3-1 overall but down a set in the other two ongoing singles matches, Aguiar won the next three games to take the decisive third set 6-3 and secure the victory for his team.

Aguiar's week also included a 6-3 win with senior George Ciuca at #2 doubles and a 6-2, 6-2 triumph at #2 singles against Wheaton College on Saturday. He and Ciuca are now just the third duo in program history with 40 career victories as a doubles team. 

Gibbons excelled in several areas while leading Lake Forest to a pair of victories last week. The senior midfielder doubled her previous career high with six goals, matched a program record with 11 draw controls, and added a pair of ground balls in Wednesday's 16-10 win over Milwaukee School of Engineering. Lake Forest rolled 19-2 at Marian University on Saturday with Gibbons scoring three goals and assisting on two others while also leading the team with six draw controls, a career-high six ground balls, and a career-high-tying three caused turnovers.

On Saturday Gibbons became the fifth player in program history to surpass 100 career draw controls and she also ranks 10th in team annals with 55 points and 34 caused turnovers.

Tuesday's Forester Athlete of the Week award was the first for Gibbons and third for Aguiar, who also earned the honor once during each of his first two years at the College.
