Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Foresters Roll at Marian, Improve to 2-0 in NACC

The Lake Forest College women's lacrosse team prevailed 19-2 at Marian University on Saturday, matching the eighth-highest scoring margin in program history.

Four different Foresters recorded hat tricks in the contest. Seniors Emma Sharp and Shannon Gibbons each scored twice in the first quarter as the visitors jumped out to a 9-0 lead after 15 minutes of play. Both players struck again in the second as the lead grew to 14-1 at halftime.

Junior Ella Maher accounted for the first two goals of the second half after scoring once in the opening period and the visitors' advantage after three periods was 17-2. Sophomore Avery Srnka joined Sharp, Gibbons, and Maher with her third of the day early in the fourth.

In addition to the hat tricks, two-goal performances were turned in by senior Daulath Khan and freshman Madison DeGeorge and Andrea Kroeger and the Foresters' other tally came from freshman Gracia Muñoz.

It was actually a nine-point day for Sharp, who recorded six assists and raised her team-high point total this season to 37. Gibbons added a pair of assists, contributing to her diverse stat line of five points and a team-high six ground balls, six draw controls, and three caused turnovers. She matched her career high in caused turnovers and established a new one for ground balls.

The Foresters out-shot the Sabres 38-14, secured 16 of the game's 24 draw controls, gathered 31 ground balls to Marian's 15, and committed seven fewer turnovers than the home team with 22.

Lake Forest senior goalie Cecilia Adams stopped all three shots on goal she faced in the opening period and freshman Rio Dirksen made two saves the rest of the way in her collegiate debut.

The victory was the second in as many Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference games for the league's defending champs, who are now 4-3 this season overall. Marian fell to 2-7 overall and 1-1 in the NACC.

The Foresters will play three times in a four-day span next week, beginning with a 7:00 p.m. non-conference game at Carthage College on Wednesday.
