Lacrosse player Ella Maher and tennis player Felipe Moraes were named Forester Athletes of the Week on Tuesday.
Maher posted a diverse stat line in a 20-6 victory over Wittenberg University during the first of her team's two Spring Break games in Sewanee, Tennessee. The junior midfielder scored three goals, assisted on another, picked up a pair of ground balls, and tied for team-high honors with four draw controls and two caused turnovers in her season debut.
The hat trick was the sixth of Maher's collegiate career and she ranks among the top 10 in program history in career goals (39), points (46), ground balls (73), caused turnovers (52), and draw controls (93).
Moraes was victorious at the top of the doubles and singles lineups as the Foresters began their Spring Break trip to Hilton Head, South Carolina, with a 4-3 loss to the University of Rochester. He and junior Rodrigo Cunha tripled up the Yellowjackets' top tandem 6-2 and Moraes came out on top 7-5, 4-6, (10-5) at #1 singles.
Moraes is now 6-5 in singles and a team-best 8-3 in doubles this season. The sophomore improved to 47-26 in singles and doubles combined in his collegiate career.
Tuesday's Forester Athlete of the Week award is the first for Moraes and third for Maher, who also earned it as a sophomore in both hockey and lacrosse.
