Game Recap: Men's Hockey | | Arnav Pokhrel

Foresters Record Three Third Period Goals in Comeback Victory Against Beloit

Jonah Copre recorded four points (1G, 3A) as Lake Forest men's hockey took down Beloit 5-3. The Foresters scored three goals in three minutes in the final period to take home the victory.

In a game flooded with special teams opportunities, the Buccaneers capitalized first. After a tripping call midway through the first, the visitors scored on a rebound after a few close-range stops by Noel Friedman. The Foresters responded well after falling, but were unsuccessful on a power play in the 11th minute of the game. The hosts sustained pressure, and Jonah Copre reacted first to a puck in the left faceoff circle to level the score at 1 in the 16th minute.

The second period saw Beloit regain a lead early, as four minutes into the period the visitors broke out and scored on a rebound. Seven minutes later, the Foresters went back on the power play, and Trevor Faucher scored 40 seconds in with a wrist shot from the left faceoff circle. In the closing five minutes of the period, Lake Forest was assessed a five-minute major penalty, as Beloit scored again on the power play to take a 3-2 lead into the second intermission.

A Beloit hooking call midway through the third period put the Foresters on the power play again, and Luke Lizak scored from the right faceoff circle after a setup pass from Copre. The junior captain was involved in another setup a minute later, feeding Ryan Murphy in front of the crease, who scored his first career goal to give the Foresters a 4-3 lead. Copre wasn't done there, as he assisted Lizak a minute later, setting up a similar chance to the first goal of the period for Lizak to power home. Three goals in three minutes put Lake Forest up 5-3, and the Foresters held on for the final five minutes to come away with the victory.

The Foresters remain at home on Saturday, hosting nationally ranked Aurora University. Puck drop at the Alumni Memorial Fieldhouse is set for 7 p.m.
