Lake Forest College swimmers
Isabella Rozenbergas and
Matthew Strada were named Midwest Conference Performers of the Week on Tuesday after winning three individual events apiece during last Friday's dual meet at Carthage College.
Rozenbergas also contributed to a triumph in the women's 200-medley relay to begin the Foresters' first meet of the season. After
Joss Hoffman and
Megan O'Neill completed the event's backstroke and breaststroke legs, respectively, Rozenbergas swam the butterfly and
Audrey Kilmer the freestyle to give the visitors a victorious time of 1:53.06, nearly a second faster than the Firebirds. Rozenbergas then prevailed in the 200-butterfly (2:21.81), 100-butterfly (58.23), and 200-IM (2:10.18) in dominant fashion with a combined margin of victory of nearly 13 seconds. The junior is easily the league's fastest swimmer so far this year in all three events.
Strada finished first in the 200-freestyle in 1:47.19, 100-freestyle in just 49.03 seconds, and 200-IM with a time of 1:56.96. He trailed with 50 yards remaining in all three races before winning them by a combined 2.56 seconds. Strada's time in the 200-IM is the fastest in the league so far this year and he ranks among the top six in the other two events.
MWC Performers of the Week are selected by the league's sports information directors. Rozenbergas has now earned the honor eight times and Strada five times in their careers.
