Box Score The Lake Forest College men's hockey team was defeated 4-1 Friday night at Aurora University, the second-ranked team in this week's USCHO.com Poll.
The Spartans started the scoring at the 6:28 mark of the opening period and doubled their lead with a power play goal at 12:01. They finished the night 2-for-8 on the power play with another conversion at 12:58 in the second.
The Foresters got on the scoreboard just 76 seconds later. An Aurora turnover just inside the Lake Forest blue line gave senior forward
Colin Bella possession of the puck. The lefty out-sprinted a Spartan defenseman and finished off the breakaway by skating past the goaltender and backhanding a shot over his outstretched left leg and into the goal. It was his team-leading 10th goal of the year and 42nd of his career.
Aurora restored its three-goal advantage at the 4:23 mark of the third period and maintained that lead the rest of the way.
The home team finished the game with a 38-20 advantage in shots.
A loss in Lake Forest's final non-conference game of the regular season dropped the team's overall record to 4-10-1 while Aurora improved to 13-2-0.
The Foresters will travel to Adrian College next weekend to take on the Bulldogs Friday night at 7:00 and Saturday afternoon at 3:00.
