Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Lake Forest Finishes Off Weekend Sweep at Dubuque

The Forester women's hockey team came out on top of a 2-1 decision at the University of Dubuque on Saturday in the finale of the teams' weekend series. Lake Forest had also prevailed 3-1 in the opener on Friday.

Freshman forward Gracia Muñoz and junior forward Ella Maher scored for the Foresters for the second day in a row. Muñoz actually extended her scoring streak to four games when she quickly gained control of the puck on a faceoff in the right circle, headed straight toward the goal, and fired a shot into the right side of the net. It was her fifth of the season and the game's opening goal at 10:20 in the first period.

Maher doubled the Foresters' advantage with a power play score at the 17:08 mark of the second. Her shot from between the circles went over the goaltender's glove but under the crossbar for what proved to be the official game-winning goal. Muñoz and junior forward Tallulah Bryant were credited with assists as Maher took over the team lead with her eighth goal of the year.

Lake Forest freshman goaltender Lily Peterfeso kept Dubuque off the scoreboard for nearly the entire contest. She made 37 saves before the Spartans, while on the power play and with their goalie on the bench in favor of an extra attacker, finally got one past her with just 11.6 seconds remaining in the contest. Peterfeso improved to 6-4 with a 1.82 goals against average and .942 save percentage on the season.

Muñoz won the final faceoff of the game and was 9-5 in that category on the day. The Foresters won 42 of 70 faceoffs for a 70 percent success rate in the contest.

Lake Forest is now 11-10-0 overall and 9-5-0 in Northern Collegiate Hickey Association play this season. Dubuque fell to 2-19-0 overall and 1-13-0 in the league.

The Foresters will host St. Norbert College next weekend with Friday night's series opener beginning at 7:00 and Saturday's finale at 2:00 p.m. Lake Forest's Ry McCarthy Award presentation will take place after the first period of Friday's game and the Foresters will celebrate Alumni Day and the 25th anniversary of their first season on Saturday.
