Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Steve Bourbon

Foresters Power Past Rams on Alumni Day

Forward Cristian Rodriguez battled foul trouble Saturday afternoon against Cornell College but was nearly unstoppable when he was on the court, as the Lake Forest men's basketball team earned a 91-67 victory over the Rams at the Sports and Recreation Center.

Rodriguez had 23 points on 9-of-13 shooting and added six rebounds and three assists for Lake Forest (13-7, 8-3 MWC). Senior guard Alex Forowycz scored 22 points, and sophomore Marko Visnjevac did not miss from the field, scoring 14 points on 5-of-5 shooting.

Over his last five games combined, Visnjevac is shooting 13-of-15 (86.7 percent) from three-point range.

Rodriguez, the leading scorer in the Midwest Conference at more than 20 points per game, scored the first six points of the game for Lake Forest. Rodriguez would play just seven minutes before halftime after picking up a personal foul and technical foul on the same play less than two minutes into the game.

The foul trouble did not limit his effectiveness, however, as Rodriguez scored 13 points and pulled down five rebounds in the first half.

Lake Forest closed the first half strongly on a 9-0 run to enter intermission with a 38-30 lead. The senior Rodriguez punctuated the Foresters run with a putback tip-in off a missed shot from Forowycz with one second remaining in the half.

Lake Forest held Cornell to just 28.6 percent shooting, and the Rams made only 23.1 percent of their three-pointers in the first half.

Reserve forward Chase Honarvar stepped into a bigger role with Rodriguez in foul trouble, and Honarvar set a pair of new career highs with six points and 11 rebounds in 19 minutes off the bench.

After halftime, Lake Forest came out of the break locked in from three-point range. The Foresters made their first five three-pointers of second half and made 7-of-13 overall from behind the arc in the second half.

Lake Forest scored 53 points after halftime, while still holding Cornell under 30 percent shooting in the second half.

After a pair of home games in a row, the Foresters will hit the road Wednesday evening for their next Midwest Conference matchup. Lake Forest will travel to Beloit College to take on the Buccaneers at 5:30 p.m.
