Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

This Time Lake Forest Comes Out on Top in Overtime at Trine

A day after falling 2-1 in overtime, the Forester women's hockey team prevailed by the same score in the extra period at Trine University on Saturday.

The game was scoreless for nearly 35 minutes of play. A Forester penalty at the 14:28 mark of the second period gave the Thunder their second power play opportunity of the day and they converted just 24 seconds later.

Thanks to three freshman forwards, Lake Forest tied the score with 1:43 to play in the period. Alex Luke's backhand shot missed to the left but was received by Haley Hunter. She skated behind the goal before finding Gracia Muñoz for a shot from between the circles that hit the left side of the net.

The Foresters out-shot Trine 25-20 during the first two periods but the home team had an 11-8 advantage in the third. Lake Forest junior Chelsea Denniss needed to make just one save in the overtime period while the Thunder goalie stopped five shots on goal before surrendering the game-winner off the stick of senior defenseman Holly Kiernan. A centering pass from the left boards by junior forward Jasmine Kohl led Kiernan perfectly just before she entered the Thunder zone. With a breakaway opportunity, Kiernan approached the goalie, broke to her right, and slid the puck into the goal to end the contest.

Luke was credited with her second assist of the day on the play.

Dennis turned away 31 of 32 shots in the game and 60 of 63 in the weekend series. She raised her save percentage on the season to .928 and earned her 13th career victory, tying her for ninth place in program history.

The victory evened the Foresters' overall record this season at 9-9-0 and they are now 7-5-0 in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play. Trine fell to 6-11-2 overall and 2-9-1 in the league.

Lake Forest will host Concordia University Wisconsin in a non-conference game next Tuesday night at 7:00.
