The Lake Forest College women's hockey team was defeated 2-1 Tuesday night by Concordia University Wisconsin, the 12th-ranked team in the nation.
The Falcons started the scoring just four minutes into the contest but it was a 1-1 game after Forester freshman Gracia Muñoz struck at the 12:47 mark of the opening period. She picked up the puck along the left boards, turned and skated toward the goal, and fired a shot past the goalie from the left circle while sliding on one knee. It was the third goal of the year for Muñoz and assists on the play were credited to junior forward
Jasmine Kohl and freshman defenseman
Delaney Zerfass.
Both teams had three power play opportunities in the contest and Concordia Wisconsin was the only one to convert, netting what proved to be the game-winning goal with 5:15 remaining in the second period.
After being out-shot 36-9 during the first two periods, the Foresters doubled up the Falcons 8-4 in that category in the third but were unable to tie the score.
Lake Forest freshman goaltender
Lily Peterfeso finished the night with 38 saves and raised her save percentage on the year to .937.
The non-conference loss dropped the Foresters' record on the season to 9-10- while Concordia Wisconsin improved to 17-1-1.
Lake Forest will resume Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play at the University of Dubuque this weekend. The teams will face off Friday afternoon at 2:00 and at the same time on Saturday.
