The Forester women's hockey team began its weekend series against visiting Adrian College with a 5-2 loss to the nation's seventh-ranked team.
The Bulldogs scored the game's first goal at the 5:15 mark of the opening period and added more scores before the first intermission. They struck two more times in the second and kept the home team off the scoreboard for the game's first 30 minutes.
The first career goal for freshman forward Gracia Muñoz finally ended the Foresters' scoring drought at the 10:51 mark of the third period. With Lake Forest on a rush, freshman forward
Alex Luke's cross-ice pass found Kohl, who back-handed a pass just in front the Adrian goalie while falling to the ice. Muñoz was there to send it in and make the score 5-1.
The home team added a score with 1:14 on the clock. It was the team-high-tying sixth of the year for junior forward
Ella Maher, who was assisted by senior defensemen
Willow Poppleton and
Holly Kiernan.
The visitors had a 39-27 advantage in shots and won 39 faceoffs to the Foresters' 34 on the night.
The loss dropped Lake Forest's overall record to 8-7-0 and Northern Collegiate Hockey Association mark to 6-3-0. Adrian, meanwhile, improved to 12-4-0 overall with victories in all nine of the team's league games.
The same two teams will face off again in Alumni Memorial Fieldhouse Saturday afternoon at 2:00.
