Lake Forest College football fans packed the stands at Hamilton High School in Chandler, Arizona, Saturday evening but the team was doubled up 14-7 by Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges in the Cactus Kickoff. It was the season opener for both teams.
Junior linebacker
Blake Ware is one of 53 Foresters from Arizona and he led all players in the contest with a dozen tackles. Senior linebacker
Charlie Fordon was next with 11 tackles and his fumble recovery in the first quarter was the only turnover of the contest.Â
Lake Forest's defense limited the Stags to just 174 total yards and only 31 on 36 rushing attempts. The unit also kept CMS off the scoreboard until the fourth quarter.
The Forester offense, however, struggled all evening to move the ball and amassing just 199 total yards.
Arizona
Tommy Carberry and
Vance Cooper led Lake Forest 41 receiving yards and 38 on the ground, respectively. The team's only touchdown of the game was scored on a 3-yard pass from freshman quarterback
Richard Stallworth to senior wideout

Freshman punter
Jakob Gump had a successful collegiate debut, averaging 35.6 yards on eight punts.
The Foresters will look to rebound from the loss in next Saturday's Midwet Conference opener at Illinois College. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
