Foresters Drop a Pair of Matches at the Wisconsin Lutheran Triangular

The Lake Forest College women's volleyball team headed north Friday night to take on the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse and the host school of the triangular at Wisconsin Lutheran College.

In the first match of the evening, Lake Forest and La Crosse battled back and forth in the opening set. The Eagles led 14-13 before winning 11 of 16 points to take it 25-18.

La Crosse held a 21-17 advantage in set two before Lake Forest took the next four points to tie the score. After falling behind by two, the Foresters rattled off four straight points once again to take the set 25-23.

Lake Forest came out firing in the third set and went up 10-4, but the Eagles regrouped and fought back and eventually took it 25-23.

The Eagles took control once again jn the middle of set four, jumping out to a 15-8 lead, and they prevailed 25-19 to close out the match.

Freshman Rio Dirksen recorded a career-high 23 kills and also served up five aces. Senior Lily Robinson tallied 26 assists, and fellow senior Ireland Van Stone recorded 17 digs.

In match two of the day the Foresters squared off against the host Warriors. Wisconsin Lutheran never trailed the first set and cruised to a 25-16 win.

Similar to set two of its previous match, Lake Forest trailed late and had to battle back to tie up the score before eventually securing the set victory 25-23.

Lake Forest held a 13-8 lead during set three, but the Warriors used a five-point run to tie the score. Later in the set, the home team went on a 6-0 run and eventually won it 25-18.

Wisconsin Lutheran never trailed in set four on its way to a 25-18 win and a match victory.

Junior Meghan Winston tied her career high with three aces and also contributed six kills and a team-high 13 digs.

The Foresters (2-8) hit the court again next Friday when they host Grinnell College at 7:00 in the Lake Forest College Sports & Recreation Center.
