The Forester football team had its 2025 home opener spoiled by Monmouth College on Saturday, falling 49-6.
The Fighting Scots scored the only touchdown of the first quarter and led 14-0 after the first play of the second.
The home team got on the scoreboard on a 29-yard field goal by freshman
Hudson Schambach with 7:56 on the clock. The drive started with a 44-yard reception by senior wide wideout
Tommy Carberry, who finished the day with three catches for a team-high 57 yards.
Monmouth made it a 21-3 game with three minutes left, leaving the Foresters time for one more drive in the half. They traveled 51 yards in 11 players and Schamback connected on a 35-yard field goal, his longest so far this season.
Unfortunately for the Foresters, that was their final score of the contest while the visitors reached the end zone twice in each of the last two quarters.
Blake Ware led the Lake Forest defense on the day with 14 tackles, including two behind the line of scrimmage. Fellow junior linebacker
Jackson Sander also reached double figures with 11 stops, as did sophomore safety
Kaden Kern with a career-high 10. Kern also recorded his first interception as a Forester, picking off a pass in the fourth quarter.
Sophomore quarterback
Ethan Springer and freshman signal-caller
Richard Stallworth combined for 170 yards through the air and Springer led the home team with 47 yards on the ground.
The loss dropped the Foresters' overall record to 0-3 and Midwest Conference mark to 0-2. Monmouth, meanwhile, improved to 2-1 overall and 2-0 in the league.
After next week's bye, Lake Forest will travel to Ripon College on Saturday, October 4, for a 3:00 p.m. kickoff.
