The Lake Forest women's soccer team opened the 2025 season in impressive fashion with a 4-1 victory at Greenville University Friday afternoon.
The Foresters struck first in the 36th minute when senior
Anna Hoffman finished off a pass from sophomore
Maggie Balas to give the visitors an early lead. Greenville managed to equalize moments later with a penalty kick, but Lake Forest quickly responded. Just three minutes after the tying goal,
Lauren Covarrubias found the back of the net off a setup from
Riley Henrichs, sending the Foresters into halftime ahead 2-1.
Lake Forest carried its momentum into the second half, continuing to dictate play. Senior
Izzy DeStefano extended the lead in the 57th minute with help from sophomore
Annabelle Schroeder, and Balas capped the scoring at the 70-minute mark with an assist credited to freshman
Maddie Vasquez.
The Foresters controlled the match statistically as well, finishing with a 15-8 advantage in shots and earning five corner kicks compared to two for the home team. Senior goalkeeper
Greta Norville needed to make just one save to earn the victory.
The Foresters will look to build on the strong start when they travel to St. Louis on Saturday for a 2:00 p.m. non-conference matchup at Webster University.
