Match Recap: Women's Tennis |

Runner-Up Finish for Foresters at MWC Tournament

The Lake Forest College women's tennis team split a pair of 4-1 decisions at the 2024-25 Midwest Conference Tournament on Saturday, defeating Cornell College in the semifinals before falling to Grinnell College in the final.

The Foresters began the day by earning the doubles point against Cornell in somewhat dramatic fashion. After sophomore Sofia Strupovets and freshman Lilly Dockal defeated the Rams' top tandem 6-4 and Cornell won at #2, sophomore Anika Kinnear and Emily Bross overcame a 3-1 deficit at #3 to prevail 7-6 (7-4).

Lake Forest fifth-year Margaret Bugnacki  finished off a 6-0, 6-1 victory at #3 singles to increase her program record career win total to 79. Strupovets rolled 6-1, 6-2 at #1 and the Rams earned the point at #2 just before a 6-1, 6-0 match-clinching triumph by sophomore Kate Feist at #5. Senior Sara Lopez had taken the first set at #4 and Cornell led at #6 when the contest ended.

The doubles point went to Grinnell, which won at #2 and #3, in the Foresters' second match of the day.

A convincing 6-1, 6-0 victory for Strupovets tied the score but the Pioneers won at the bottom three spots in the lineup to take the tourney title.

Feist was presented with the MWC Elite 20 Award at the end of the tournament. She is the third Forester in the last five years to receive the award given to the player at the conference tournament with the highest cumulative grade point average.

Lake Forest completed the season with a 16-5 record and Cornell finished 18-9. Grinnell advances to the 2025 NCAA Division III Tournament at 18-9.
