Match Recap: Men's Tennis |

Foresters Sweep Lawrence and Ripon to Open MWC Play

The Lake Forest College men's tennis team won 7-0 at Lawrence University in the morning and by the same score at Ripon College in the afternoon on Saturday.

Four Foresters were 4-0 on the day in singles and doubles combined, including sophomore Daniel Fotiev, who was perfect with senior Alec Nissen at #3 doubles and on his own at #6 singles. Fotiev now owns a 7-6 overall record on the year.

Freshman Felipe Moraes and senior Daniel Tulchinskiy were 2-0 at #1 doubles while junior George Ciuca partnered with sophomore Felipe Vazsonyi at #2 doubles at Lawrence and senior Kyle Lassen at Ripon.

Moraes won at the top spot in the singles lineup and Ciuca at #2 in the first match of the day and they switched positions in the second. Tulchinskiy won twice at #3 and is now just five victories away from becoming the program's 11 player with at least 100 wins in singles and doubles combined.

As they did at #2 doubles, Vazsonyi and Lassen shared the #4 singles spot with the former prevailing at Lawrence and the latter at Ripon. Senior Anele Mayiga edged out the Vikings' #5 player 7-5 in the first set before dropping just three more games in as many sets at that position the rest of the day.

Victories in the team's first two Midwest Conference matches of the season raised Lake Forest's overall record to 6-8. Lawrence fell to 6-12 and Ripon to 5-11 overall and both are 0-1 in league play.

The Foresters will continue league play at home next weekend, taking on Cornell College at 9:00 in the morning and Grinnell College at 3:00 p.m.
