Thirteen different members of the Forester men's lacrosse team scored at least once in a 14-7 victory at Cornell College on Saturday.
After a goal from the Rams to open the scoring, Lake Forest rattled off seven in a row to close out the opening quarter before adding one to begin the second. Each of the first period tallies came from a different player and senior
Connor Tartaglione had a goal and assist during the run.
Junior
Ryan Dousevicz, who was responsible for the final score in the first, was responsible for Lake Forest's lone goal in the second and was the only player on the team with two in the contest. Cornell began a comeback bid with three in a row to make the halftime score 8-4.
Sophomore
Carson Pagel notched his first goal of the season 67 seconds into the third quarter and the Foresters reached double figures on a score from freshman
Jackson Derosia three minutes later.
The teams alternated scores until the final minute of the contest with Lake Forest's goals during that stretch coming from junior
Brant Schuckman, freshman
Wesley Sailor, and sophomore
Tyler Dearmin. Sailor's was the first of his career and fellow freshman Joe WIlliams did the same to close out the scoring with 47 seconds left.
In addition to Tartaglione scoring one goal and assisting on another, Tartaglione led the visitors with six ground balls. Fellow senior
Conor Murphy was next with five and his first goal of the year came during the first quarter. Another senior,
Luke Bowers, matched his career high with four caused turnovers.
Lake Forest was dominant at the dot with juniors
Gabe Boston and
John O'Reilly and senior
Carson Kennally combining to win 17 of 23 face-offs on the day.
Four Forester goalkeepers combined to stop nine of the Rams' 16 shot on goal. Senior
Andrew Widlar started, made three saves, and was credited with the victory while junior
Jacob Lipson led the group in saves with five.
Lake Forest climbed back above the .500 mark at 8-7 overall this season and improved to 7-3 in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference play. Cornell fell to 5-10 overall and 2-8 in the league.
The Foresters will close out the regular season against visiting Illinois Institute of Technology Wednesday afternoon at 3:00. A victory would make Lake Forest the #4 seed in the NACC Tournament and allow the team to play at home in next Saturday's quarterfinal round.
