The Lake Forest College men's lacrosse team defeated visiting Marian University 29-4 Saturday afternoon.
It was the Foresters' Senior Day and the players who were freshman when the program was restarted in 2022 were celebrated along with the parents and other family and friends at halftime.
Ten of those 20 players scored at least once in the game, starting with
Trip Gaston just 65 seconds into the contest.
Bode Rubright struck four times,
Caden Elias and
Luke Bowers twice, and
Max Guyott and
John Casey once each during the team's 12-goal outburst in the first quarter.
Bowers netted his third of the day and and
Dominic Lewis scored two goals, including one assisted by his brother Angelo, in the second quarter. Additional tallies in the period came from fellow seniors
Connor Tartaglione,
Parker Hevers, and
Andrew Eisenman as Lake Forest built a 20-3 lead.
Forester seniors were productive all over the field. Tartaglione picked up a game-high six ground balls while
Carson Kennally had five and Bowers and Lewis four apiece. Lake Forest doubled up the visitors 58-29 and matched the program's sixth-highest single-game total in that category. Kennally also won 12 of 20 face-offs.
Forester goalkeeper
Andrew Widlar did not see a shot on goal but did pick up a ground ball during the first quarter.
Kyle Joyce and
John Niccoli split the rest of the game and combined for six saves, six ground balls, and three caused turnovers.
The seniors were not the only players to contribute to the second-highest scoring output in team history. Junior
Gabe Boston and sophomore
Carson Pagel scored goals in the first half and Pagel added another in the second. Freshman
John Shannon turned in a third quarter hat trick, classmates
Jackson Derosia and
Wells Roney scored twice each, and fellow freshman Rowan Barringer added one more in the second half.
Lake Forest improved to 6-4 overall and 5-0 in Northern Athletics Collegioate Conference play this season while Marian fell to 2-5 overall and 1-3 in the league.
The Foresters will travel to Concordia University Wisconsin on Wednesday for a 4:00 p.m. contest.
