The Forester women's lacrosse team extended its winning streak to three games with a 17-11 victory over visiting Carthage College on Saturday.
The Lake Forest offense was powered in large part by senior
Jenna Doctor and junior
Emma Sharp. Doctor scored six goals and set up another while Sharp finished with five goals and two assists. Senior
Abby Meyer and sophomore
Ella Maher scored twice each and single tallies came from senior
Krissy Kuwahara and junior
Daulath Khan.
Sharp had two goals and two assists and Doctor one of each in the first quarter, which ended with the Foresters ahead 6-5.
After the Firebirds tied the score early in the second, Sharp's second man-up goal of the contest gave the home team the lead for good with 9:47 to play in the quarter. Doctor struck again just 17 seconds later and added a man-up goal of her own and two more tallies before the Foresters took a 12-7 lead into the halftime break.
After combining for 19 goals in the first half, the teams scored just once each in the third quarter with Lake Forest's goal coming from Kuwahara.
Scored from Doctor, Maher, Sharp, and Khan in the fourth prevented a Carthage comeback, as did a season-high-tying 13 saves from junior goalkeeper
Cecilia Adams. She has now reached double figures in that category in each of her five starts and owns a .508 save percentage on the season.
Kuwahara and Maher tied for the team lead with five ground balls and four caused turnovers apiece. Junior
Shannon Gibbons grabbed a team-high six draw controls.
The victory evened the Foresters' record on the season at 3-3 and gave the Firebirds their first loss after starting the year 7-0.
Lake Forest will play the program's first Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference game at Milwaukee School of Engineering Wednesday night at 7:00.
