The Forester women's lacrosse team dropped a back-and-forth battle at Illinois Wesleyan University 11-8 on Sunday.
Both teams scored three times and spent time with the lead in the opening quarter. Forester senior
Jenna Doctor tied the game at the 10:08 mark and sophomore
Eva Russell gave the visitors the lead on a man-up goal less than a minute later. After a pair of Titan scores, senior
Ashley Carr tied the game again with 2:26 to play in the period.
Lake Forest junior
Emma Sharp tied the game at four early in the second quarter before Illinois Wesleyan took the lead for good with two more goals before halftime.
Doctor's second goal of the game and team-high seventh this season pulled the Foresters to within one 63 seconds into the third, as did Sharp's man-up goal with 5:21 to play in the quarter.
The Titans, however, increased their lead with two goals late in the third quarter and another early in the fourth, making the score 10-6.
Lake Forest got back in the game when Carr assisted junior
Daulath Khan twice in the span of 97 seconds but the visitors would get no closer.
The Foresters out-shot the home team 22-20 and put 14 of those attempts on target to Illinois Wesleyan's 13. Lake Forest also won 16 of the game's 23 draw controls and picked up 35 ground balls, 10 more than the Titans.
The loss was the Foresters' second in as many games this season while Illinois Wesleyan improved to 3-1.
Lake Forest will host the University of Wisconsin-River Falls next Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
