The Lake Forest women's basketball team started off hot offensively in its home finale on Wednesday night against conference-leading Ripon College. However, the Foresters could not sustain their torrid offense, falling 85-58.
The Foresters (4-20, 2-13 MWC) were led by
Rebecca Christodoulou with 14 points. The senior hit 3-of-9 from three-point range.
Guard Mia DeGrasse put together a well-rounded game with 11 points on 5-of-8 shooting, while contributing a team-high five rebounds and two steals. The sophomore was one point shy of her career high set on Jan. 8 against Knox.
The Foresters came out of the gates firing on all cylinders on offense in the opening quarter.
Jamie Springstead scored the first five points for Lake Forest on the game and the Foresters' offense stayed in a groove from there.
Lake Forest shot 57.1 percent from the field in the first quarter, including making 4-of-5 three-pointers. However, Ripon was able to control the backboard with six first-quarter offensive rebounds and outscored Lake Forest at the free-throw line 6-0 in the opening quarter.
After a DeGrasse three-pointer tied the game at 20 apiece with 1:31 left in the first quarter, Ripon ripped off a 17-0 run across 6:51 of game time to seize control of the game. After such hot shooting in the first quarter, the Foresters were limited to 18.2 percent from the field in the second quarter and went into halftime trailing 44-27.
The Red Hawks came out of intermission on a 13-2 run to put the game out of reach.
The Foresters will be back on the court for their season finale on Saturday at 1 p.m. on the road against Beloit College.
