The Lake Forest women's basketball team closed out its season on Saturday on the road, dropping a hard-fought contest to Beloit College, 59-48.
Â
The Foresters (4-21, 2-14 MWC) were led by a pair of seniors in
Rebecca Christodoulou and
Peyton Noles. Christodoulou notched her fifth double-double of the season with 17 points and 10 rebounds and added four steals on defense, while Noles joined her in double figures with 12 points on 6-of-14 shooting.
Â
For the game, the Foresters could not find their rhythm on offense, particularly from beyond the arc. Lake Forest shot 20-for-73 from the field (27.4 percent) and made just 1-of-20 three-point field goals; Saturday marked the lowest shooting percentage from three this season for the Foresters.
Â
From the opening tip, it was a defensive struggle between the two teams. Beloit jumped out to an 8-0 run to start the game, and Lake Forest would not be able to recover.
Â
Lake Forest shot just 14.3 percent from the field in the first quarter, but only trailed 14-12 at the break, thanks in part to a perfect 6-for-6 mark in the opening quarter from the free-throw line.
Â
Those free points at the line would dry up as the game went on, as Lake Forest shot just 1-for-4 at the free-throw line over the course of the final three quarters of the game.
Â
Despite the cold shooting, the Foresters scrapped and clawed for points in a variety of ways by hitting the offensive glass and forcing Beloit turnovers. Lake Forest secured 15 offensive rebounds as a team, which led to 15 second-chance points. In addition, the Foresters induced 17 Buccaneer turnovers which led to 20 Lake Forest points off turnovers.
The Foresters would cut the Beloit lead to as little as five points on a Noles layup with 7:25 remaining, and again on a layup from Noles with 5:37 left but Lake Forest would not be able to trim the deficit any further down the stretch.
