The Lake Forest women's basketball team couldn't get its offense in a rhythm in the fourth quarter, as the Foresters fell to Lawrence University on the road Saturday, 62-50.
The Foresters (3-16, 2-9 MWC) were held to just nine points in the fourth quarter and shot 4-of-20 from the field. Lake Forest was held in check from behind the three-point line, as the Foresters shot just 1-of-9 from deep in the fourth quarter.
Lake Forest was led by senior
Rebecca Christodoulou's 23 points and six rebounds. Christodoulou topped 20 points in a game for the seventh time this season. Ariana Torralba added eight points and six rebounds, while forward
Rylie Crecelius was the Foresters' leading scorer off the bench with six points.
The Foresters shot 33.9 percent from the field, 19 percent from the three-point line, and were an efficient 8-of-10 from the free-throw line.
Despite Lake Forest winning the rebounding battle 45-40, it was Lawrence that was able to capitalize on its offensive rebounds with 16 second-chance points off of 18 offensive rebounds.
Christodoulou was able to get off to a fast start to get the Lake Forest offense going. The senior guard scored 10 of Lake Forest's 15 points in the opening frame through determination to get to the rim and put pressure on the defense. Christodoulou made a pair of layups in the paint and made Lawrence pay at the free-throw line by going 6-for-6 at the charity stripe in the first quarter.
After trailing by five at halftime, Lake Forest made a push for the lead with a 7-0 run early in the third quarter to tie the game at 34. However, Lawrence responded with an 8-0 run of its own to quickly reclaim the lead. The Vikings put together another run that spanned the end of the third quarter and into the fourth, as Lawrence's three-point lead expanded to 17 on a 14-0 run across 4:39.
Lake Forest will get a break from its conference schedule, as the Foresters will travel to Mount Mary University for their next game on Tuesday night at 6:00 p.m.
